How Couples’ Wills work: Each person creates their own individual will through their own separate account. This means each will is completely personal and independent — we do not allow one person to complete both wills. You may have seen this arrangement referred to as “mirror wills” elsewhere. The process is straightforward — each of you simply follows the same guided steps independently.

Couples’ Wills

Planning together — each protected individually

A Couples’ Will ensures both you and your partner have proper, legally binding protection in place. Because each will is individual, each of you can record your own wishes, appoint your own executors, and make your own decisions — even if most of those decisions are the same.
This is particularly important for couples with children from previous relationships, or where one partner has specific assets or wishes that differ from the other’s.
Each person completes their will through their own account at their own pace. There’s no need to do it at the same time — one of you can start today and the other can follow when ready.

Understanding Wills

What is a will and why does it matter?

What a will actually does

A will is a legal document that sets out exactly what you want to happen to your money, property and possessions after you die. It lets you name guardians for children under 18, choose who manages your estate, and record your funeral wishes.
Without a valid will, your estate is distributed according to the government’s rules of intestacy — which may bear no resemblance to what you would have wanted.

Is an online will legally binding?

Absolutely. A will written online carries exactly the same legal weight as one written by a solicitor — provided it is correctly signed and witnessed. Our service is valid across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and every will is reviewed by a professional before it reaches you.

“The most important thing is that your will exists, is correctly made, and reflects your actual wishes.”

Life Events

When should you make a will?

There are key moments in life when having a will stops being optional and becomes urgent. If any of these apply to you, now is the right time.

You own property

A will ensures your home passes to the right person. Without one, your property could be tied up in legal disputes for months or years.

You have children

A will lets you name guardians for children under 18 and set the age at which they inherit. Without one, the courts make these decisions.

You have an unmarried partner

Unmarried partners have no automatic right to inherit anything under UK law — regardless of how long you’ve been together.

You've recently married

Marriage automatically invalidates any previous will in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. If you married recently, you currently have no valid will.

Your will is out of date

An outdated will can cause as many problems as no will at all. Review yours after any major life change — new relationship, new child, divorce, or inherited assets.

You have savings or investments

Without a will, the rules of intestacy determine who receives your money and assets — which may not be who you intended.
